Stop the Approval of North Carolina's Wake Boat Restrictive Bills H183 and S146v1

Stop the Approval of North Carolina's Wake Boat Restrictive Bills H183 and S146v1
The Issue
As a Sports Medicine Specialist who served Morehouse College athletics for 35 years, I understand the vital role of outdoor water-related activities in the emotional wellbeing of teenagers and young adults. The bond it creates within families is hard to replicate. Our public reservoir, Lake Glenville, has always been the sanctuary where families are able to connect, especially through the use of wake boats.
However, the introduction of Bill H183 sponsored by Representative Mike Clampitt and Bill S146v1 sponsored by Senator Kevin Corbin in North Carolina threaten this bond. These bills aim to introduce restrictive regulations on the operation of wake boats, essentially cutting off a vital avenue for family bonding.
These bills are asking to provide a 500 ft buffer to the shore on Lake Glenville effectively banning wake board/surf boats on the lake. If these bills are passed, Mike Clampitt and Kevin CorbinIn will be banning your teenagers and young adults from the lake. The lake will change from a PUBLIC, family use lake, to a fisherman's retirement lake.
We know that the wave from a wake surf boat dissipates to 7.8 inches by the time it moves 65 feet from center line (Fay 2022). There is no reason for a buffer more than 100 ft from the shore. If a buffer is absolutely necessary, a 200 ft buffer at Lake Glenville is the most that is needed.
Therefore, this petition is to implore officials to reconsider the passing of Bills H183 and S146v1 and work towards more balanced legislation that promotes family bonding while ensuring the safety and sustainability of our lakes.
We cannot afford to lose this valuable tool for family connection. Sign this petition to stop the passing of North Carolina's Bills H183 and S146v1. Stand with us to protect our families and the sanctity of our cherished Lake Glenville.
