The Issue

This issue is deeply personal to me because of the 35 years I've spent in this community, cultivating relationships and cherishing the unique character of our neighborhood. The proposed construction of a 60-apartment complex at the end of N Hamilton Street poses an unprecedented threat to the safety and tranquility of our area.

The streets here are simply not designed to accommodate the volume of traffic that such a development would inevitably bring. Increased traffic congestion could lead not only to daily frustration but potential hazards, especially near the railroad crossing where numerous children cross every day. This increase in traffic elevates the risk of accidents, with children being the most vulnerable.

A study by the Federal Highway Administration highlights that traffic congestion increases the likelihood of accidents by 50%. Our local streets can hardly manage the current flow effectively, let alone the added burden of a large apartment complex. Moreover, the noise pollution that accompanies heavy traffic can deteriorate the peacefulness that our neighbors and I hold dear.

Environmental impact is another critical concern. Large-scale developments often lead to increased air and noise pollution, and can heavily strain our existing infrastructure, including water supply and sewage systems. Furthermore, the construction could disrupt local wildlife and greenery that contributes to the ecological balance of our community.

Having the support of my friends and community leader Bo Kelly, who has been instrumental in understanding the implications of such a project, we believe it is imperative to reconsider this development plan. We are not opposed to progress or development, but it must be thoughtful and sustainable, preserving the essence and livability of our neighborhood.

We propose alternative solutions, such as smaller-scale community housing projects or enhancements to existing infrastructure, to cater to the growing population without adversely affecting our day-to-day lives.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a movement to protect our neighborhood from unsuitable development. Help us preserve the character, safety, and livability of our cherished streets. Let's stand together in maintaining the integrity of our community. Please sign and share this petition to make our voices heard.
