Stop the annexation and MHP expansion at 863 Central Church Rd
The Issue
To the Morristown City Council and Regional Planning Commission:
We, the residents of Morristown and Hamblen County, petition you to vote NO on the annexation and rezoning of 863 Central Church Rd from R-1 to MHP for the West Side Mobile Home Court expansion. The city must halt this expansion and prioritize the safety, health, and welfare of its current citizens over developer profits.
We oppose this development for the following critical reasons:
Severe Traffic & Child Safety Risks: The expansion plans a 6th private road exiting onto Central Church Rd. Since local school buses cannot enter the trailer park on its private roads, this forces children, some as young as 5 or 6, to exit the buses stopped on Central Church Rd. Then they must cross an already heavily traveled road to get to their homes. Adding more units will directly increase the danger to these children.
Unresolved Health & Code Violations: The existing park has a history of multiple code violations. The most recent violations found in June involved holes that had been intentionally drilled in sewer pipes. These violations can cause serious health issues for the residents. The city must enforce its codes and resolve all biohazard issues before allowing any annexation that will lead to expansion.
Neighborhood Strain & Environmental Loss: Increasing population density by up to 60+ units threatens nearby neighborhoods with increased traffic and strain on infrastructure. Studies have shown that increased population density leads to traffic congestion and higher crime rates. The expansion of the mobile home park threatens to disrupt the sense of safety that all communities want. This annexation will also destroy a beautiful established green space that is home to local wildlife.
Morristown recently protected its citizens by rejecting a similar annexation at Greenbriar Road and West Andrew Johnson Highway due to traffic and safety concerns. We ask the City Council to stand with residents again.
Demand the City Council vote NO on the 863 Central Church Rd annexation. Clean up the current park before considering any expansion!
