Stop the Animal Abuse at Debbie Dolittle’s Petting Zoo Shut it Down!
The Issue
Depressing place.
The petting area was small and indoors with inadequate sunlight and no running water for any of the animals. The two baby kangaroos were kept inside the petting space during the day, when they are usually supposed to be sleeping. They constantly get harassed while trying to sleep because of this.
The capybara was very dry and had no access to water to be able to poop (they poop in water). It also wandered around, looking very lethargic and disinterested in anything or anyone.
I thought the conditions of every exhibit we saw were deplorable. Animals were in smelly, small enclosures. We saw animals that seemed to have poor skin and fur conditions. Additionally we were told that the male emu who had lost all of his feathers on his neck and back was due to nesting. Upon research I learned the only time a bird will lose feathers like that is due to illness or stress (occasionally with mating as well for females). The staff talked unprofessionally and told stories that I personally feel shouldn’t be shared with paying customers.
There were around 10 sheep in an enclosure not even large enough for 1.
Overall, this place is incredibly inhumane towards the animals.
All in all, do not support this place.
The camel enclosure was at least 20ft and you need at least two acres of land per camel. The camel wasn’t even alone in that enclosure ether.
Poor animals. All of the animals looked miserable. It was hot and stuffy. The baby cows eyes were rolling back it looked so dehydrated. Do not support this place! It needs to be shut down! If we can shut this place down, maybe there will be some hope for those animals to have a humane life. An if things stay the same those animal will die miserable in a small disgusting exhibit, where they’re all severely neglected. This situation requires immediate reaction because everyday it’s not handled, it another day those animal have to live in those conditions.
