Stop the anaerobic waste facility in Murray County, GA

The Issue

A company wants to bring an animal waste-processing and methane gas facility to Berry Bennett Road — right here in South Murray. That means truckloads of manure and industrial sludge will be hauled in daily, releasing foul odors, toxic gases, and potentially harmful chemicals into our air and water. We are not against progress — we are for responsible, healthy, and transparent development. Let’s make sure Murray County remains a place where our children can breathe clean air and drink safe water.

The proposed anaerobic waste facility poses significant risks to our community's health and environment. Waste from industrial and agricultural processes will be processed here, which may release ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and other toxic substances detrimental to respiratory health and overall well-being. The environmental impact of such a facility would be profound, with potential contamination of our local water sources and degradation of the air quality.

These types of facilities have caused serious problems across the country. In Colorado, one was shut down after hundreds of complaints about stench and gas leaks. In Florida, neighbors had to sue over unbearable odors. And farmers in Texas are suing a biosolids company after discovering PFAS “forever chemicals” in their soil and wells.

We cannot let this happen here. Our families rely on private wells, clean air, and peaceful neighborhoods. A facility like this would bring hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, unbearable odors, potential PFAS, methane leaks, truck traffic, and round-the-clock noise — not “green energy,” but a public health hazard.

Furthermore, this facility will likely affect property values and could deter future residents or businesses from settling or investing in our community. This move could have long-lasting economic implications, hindering rather than facilitating growth and prosperity in Murray County.

Murray County deserves better solutions — not an experiment that risks our homes, land, and water. Let’s stand together and demand that the County Commissioner and officials say NO to this facility.

Please sign this petition to voice your opposition to the anaerobic waste facility on Berry Bennett Road. Together, we can urge our local authorities to reconsider this project and protect the health, safety, and value of Murray County's environment and residents. Every signature brings us one step closer to preserving our community's integrity and quality of life.
