Stop the Albertan Premier from undermining federal firearm laws

The Issue

No parent wants to identify their child by their bloodied shoes. It's a parent's worst nightmare. But it has happened before.

2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting: 20 children (age 6-7) and 6 adults shot dead.

2012 Aurora Theater shooting: 12 people shot dead.

2017 Las Vegas shooting: 61 people shot dead.

2018 Parkland High School shooting: 14 children and 3 adults shot dead

2022 Robb Elementary school shooting: 19 children (age 9-11) and 2 adults shot dead. [The picture above, is from this crime scene. Imagine that's your kid's shoe].

2023 Nashville school shooting: 3 children (9 years old) and 3 adults shot dead.

Why am I showing you the shootings that happened in the states? Because we are turning in that direction. There have been many shootings in Canada but not at the frequency and degree of violence as the states. Now tell me, is that what you want?

First, our children's futures were jeopardized by defunded education, robbing them of media literacy and the basic capacity to function effectively in today's digital age. Next, it was the introduction of antivax laws, which placed all of us in extreme danger. Alberta accounts for 12% of Canada's population, yet we had the highest number of measles cases. People were dying. People are dying.

Now, our Premier is contemplating loosening gun control laws, disregarding the federal firearm program that ensures our safety. This ill-conceived move threatens to put all of Alberta in even greater jeopardy. By undercutting federal legislation that has proven crucial for our safety, we risk an increase in gun-related violence, accidents, and fatalities.

The indisputable link between loose gun control and heightened public danger is well-documented. Countries with stringent firearm regulations report lower rates of gun violence and have proven its efficacy in protecting lives. We cannot allow political disagreements to override the safety of our communities and loved ones.

It's critical to voice our dissent against these potential regulatory changes. We appeal to the Premier and our elected officials to remember their duty to protect Alberta's residents and refrain from any action that would weaken current firearm controls.

We call for a united stand to prioritize safety and adhere to the federal firearm program. Ensure our voices are heard; sign this petition to hold our government accountable and to protect our communities from the dangers posed by weakened gun regulations. Let's safeguard a secure future for Albertans. We need your support—sign today!
