Stop the Alarming Rise of Pet Abandonments

The Issue

From the heart of a devoted animal welfare advocate, this urgent message is being delivered to raise awareness about the dire situation concerning pet abandonment's that has engulfed our community. I have invested countless hours throughout the years fostering animals to rescue them from the grim fate of euthanasia. These loving, loyal creatures don't ask for much, just a little care and compassion, yet they are being cast aside, left abandoned on street corners or tied up helplessly to park benches and trees like discarded trash.

In the first few months of 2025 alone, pet abandonment's have surged by a staggering 32% compared to the same period last year. This troubling statistic not only shocks but outlines the brewing crisis the RSPCA and similar organisations are preparing to face. As the situation escalates, there are not enough resources or shelters equipped to handle the overwhelming influx of discarded pets.

Animal welfare organisations are working tirelessly, but their resources are stretched thin. The solution lies not only in supporting these organisations monetarily and with your time but also in tougher laws and regulations regarding animal ownership and abandonment. Enforcing stricter penalties for those who abandon their pets and implementing educational programs in communities about responsible pet ownership can significantly curb this growing problem.

This is a plea for humanity and compassion. Kindness towards animals reflects the decency of society, and these innocent creatures deserve a life of dignity and love. By acting now, we can reduce the strain on shelters and prevent countless animals from being unnecessarily put to sleep. Sign this petition and stand with us to demand change, encourage responsible pet ownership, and support animal welfare organisations in their mission to provide refuge and a second chance for abandoned animals. Every signature brings us closer to a solution. Please add your voice today.

A dog licence is needed to protect our animals and make owners/breeders responsible and prevent animals being passed on/sold without any information, contact details.

Please help so this can be debated in Parliament and therefore raise this National Crisis.
