During tonight’s meeting, the Director of Planning, Raechel French, confirmed that our South Austin neighborhood is being rezoned from Austin High School to Crockett High School primarily to increase Crockett’s enrollment. This decision was described as an effort to “balance numbers,” yet it disregards the principles outlined in AISD’s own mission statement. Reassigning our community in this manner undermines both educational continuity and equitable access, prioritizing statistical targets over the stability and alignment of established neighborhoods. I, for one, will not be sending my children to Crockett.
