Tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 3rd, is election day! This is our primary for the city council and mayor; polls are open from 6 am to 7 pm. Please ensure you exercise your right to vote. 

On Wednesday, Feb. 4th, at 6 pm, there is a city council meeting. This meeting will NOT be at City Hall; it will be at the Independence Utilities Center (23rd street)

Tuesday, Feb. 10th, we are hosting a Stop the AI Data Center in the Independence community meeting, and some current councilmembers/candidates have agreed to join us. This will be at 6:30 pm at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 603 Jennings. 

Monday, Feb. 16th at 6 pm, the city council will hold a meeting at City Hall on Maple Street. At this meeting, the council will read the Nebius (data center company) Chapter 100 tax incentives for the first time. 

Monday, March 2nd at 6 pm, there is a city council meeting at City Hall on Maple street. At this meeting, the council is expected to vote on approving the Chapter 100 tax incentives for Nebius, the data center company. 

Want to express your concerns to the city council directly?

If you are a taxpayer or resident of the City of Independence and you would like to speak before Council, you can sign-up through the City Clerk’s office before any regular or special called meeting by calling (816) 325-7010 or you can sign up in-person in the Council Chamber until the 6 p.m. start time. This request to speak will include your name, address, phone number, email, and the topic you wish to address. Speakers may not deviate from the stated topic.

You do *not* have to publicly state your address. You can say, “My name is xxx, I am a resident of Independence,” and then go into your speech.
