North Carolina is soon to host several Artificial Intelligence data centers. This will severely impact the cities of Rockingham and Hamlet. The environmental impact of this can be deadly.

Rockingham is my hometown, and I do not want my fellow citizens to be impacted. For some insight, the AI data center "250-megawatt data center can use about a billion gallons of water each year, or 2.7 million gallons a day." Water pressure for citizens is already low. Also, 79.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide could be produced in this country daily. This is enough to drive a mid-sized car across North Carolina five times.

Why not?

People living near these sites in other counties complain about a constant, low-frequency buzzing. It’s not just "daytime" noise; it’s a persistent sound that can disrupt sleep and ruin the peace of a rural area.

Data centers can’t ever lose power. To prevent that, they keep hundreds of huge diesel generators on-site.

To keep the lights on for a data center, power companies often have to build new substations and transmission lines.

They usually need "clean" water—the same stuff that comes out of your kitchen sink—which puts them in direct competition with families.
