Thanks to all of you for signing this petition and to those of you who attended the on site meeting. It has been great to have our community join together and make a change to unwanted TOL clearing.

Our on site meeting was successful. The TOL has proposed the above replanting plan and has ceased the clear cutting.

A quick summary of the meeting:

  • 21 people were in attendance including council members Kim Ritcher, Tim Baillie, Mayor Woodward, TOL staff Hakim Bismel, Ryan Brayfield, Fort Langley Community Association Chair Susan Mackenzie, and owners on Billy Brown Rd
  • All people attending had the opportunity to express their concerns with the progress of the clearing
  • Hakim Bismel - explained the TOL new plan for our community.
  • Firstly: the clear cutting will stop. They admitted the clearing was unnecessary and excessive. Only the dead trees and bush will be removed leaving the original live growth . It was determined that the berm is not a fire hazard.
  • Secondly: The replanting plan will start in the next 2 weeks and will include 3 metre high trees, ground cover and bushes. This will consist of native plants that can flourish on the berm. TOL will look at watering options in order to support the new growth.
  • I believe this to be a success. I am pleased that we were able to stop a very upsetting and lifestyle altering project in our neighbourhood.
  • A neighbour expressed his concerns that we are not given forewarning of projects and therefore not given the opportunity to give input. He explained that the TOL website states they offer ballots for communities to give their opinions on up coming projects that will drastically chang our neighbourhoods yet projects are going ahead without ballots such as the speed bumps on Billy Brown Rd. Eric Woodward's response was that the council can over rule the use of ballots and go forward without community input and they do.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to help us to stop the clearing of our berm.
