Thank you, to the more than 500 people, who signed this petition and assisted in making changes to our great little community.
The Township of Langley made the decision to halt the cutting and have replaced what they clear cut with a nice array of evergreens, shrubs and ground cover. We still will need some time for the growth to fill in and replace what was lost but this is positive. They have added watering bags at the base of the trees and are refilling them on a regular basis. This should give the trees the opportunity to flourish.
My fear that saplings would be planted was calmed when I saw the forklift bringing in the 6 ft trees.
When the clear cutting was in full force several people said to me that it was terrible but there is nothing we can do about it now. Oh well...
I take two lessons away from this:
- We should not be complacent. We should make our opinion known even if change is a long shot.
- Community is a valuable asset. Our community is vibrant and strong and worth the effort to support and develop it.
Once again.... We did it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
