Hey Everyone! I wanted to send a quick update before we head into Thanksgiving. First, Happy Thanksgiving! Second, thank you so much for signing this petition and showing your dedication to the freedom to read! At the most recent meeting of the Columbia County Library Advisory Board on 11/12/2024 we had 5 brave people who spoke out against these ridiculous guidelines. I think the advisory board was surprised at the amount of opposition to the guidelines.
The Greater Clark Hills Regional Library Board meets on 12/10/2024 at 11am to vote on the guidelines. The members of the regional board consist of 5 members from Columbia County, 2 from Burke County, 1 from Lincoln County and 1 from Warren County. The Columbia County Advisory Board never voted on the guidelines so try not to get too discouraged when you see that 5 of the voting members on the regional board are from the Columbia County Advisory Board. I'm not sure that everyone one the advisory board fully understood the unintended consequences of the guidelines. So, we still have time to make a difference beyond this petition! If you haven't already, please consider sending the members of the Regional board a message. This Google Form can be used to send a direct email message to the Regional Board.
We are also holding a protest on 12/7 starting at 10am on the corner of Faircloth Dr and Evans Town Center Blvd. For more details about the protest, please send me an email at parhamkarin@gmail.com.
Also, the more signatures we can get on this petition the better. So, if you have social media, please share. If you know people who don't have social media but would be interested in signing the petition, please email it to them or help them use an internet connection to sign.
