I am a concerned citizen of the Village of Horseheads. For me, this issue is deeply personal. Each one of us should have a say over what goes into our bodies, and the addition of fluoride to our sole water supply robs us of that fundamental choice. I do not wish for any potential toxins to infiltrate what I eat and drink - an intention, I believe, is shared by most if not all community members.

Fluoride, a neurotoxin, has been routinely added to our water. With original intentions of reducing cavities in children, its proclaimed efficacy stands at a mere 25%. However, our understanding and technology have advanced since the initiation of this practice, opening up healthier and more efficient alternatives.

Now, fluoride is readily available in toothpaste and tablets for those who want it. The need to risk public health by systematically adding it to our water no longer exists. Meanwhile, our parks and pools continue to languish, in desperate need of maintenance and funding. Alarmingly, instead of addressing pressing community needs, authorities are seeking a $300,000 grant for an infrastructure project to house the fluoride.

It's time to reevaluate our priorities and consider public health above all. Let us stop the addition of fluoride to our water supply, reclaim our right to choose what we consume, and focus our resources on amenities that benefit the entirety of our community.
