Stop the acquisition of fertile farmland in Saharanpur
The Issue
We are farmers from 17 villages of Tehsil Rampur Maniharan, District Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh — Pahansu, Shivdaspur, Nainpur Nagla, Mohammadpur Gada, Chakwali, Sirsali Kalan, Sirsali Khurd, Halgoya, Ambehta Chand, Miyangi, Mirzapur, Umri Khurd, Umri Kalan, Bagakhedi, Ghatheda, Mundikhedi, Ahmadpur Mu, and Bareda.
We do not support this land acquisition. This is fertile, multi-crop, irrigated farmland that has fed and sustained our families for generations. It is not surplus or unused land — it is the only source of income, food security, and livelihood for thousands of families across these 17 villages. We object to the government's plan to acquire this land for a proposed industrial park under the PM Gati Shakti scheme.
We are also deeply concerned that this acquisition may be proceeding without an adequate Social Impact Assessment, transparent consultation, or full compliance with the legal safeguards meant to protect farmers like us.
If this land is taken, thousands of families across these 17 villages will lose their livelihood overnight, with no fertile land like this to replace it. We are not against development — but development must not come at the cost of destroying the only life thousands of us know, on land this productive, without our consent.
We respectfully urge the District Magistrate, Saharanpur, UPSIDA, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh to:
1. Withdraw the proposed acquisition of this fertile farmland across all 17 villages.
2. Make public the complete list of proposed land, including the relevant Gata/Khasra numbers.
3. Make the project's Detailed Project Report (DPR) available to the public.
4. Consider only barren or non-agricultural land for this and any future industrial project in this area.
5. Not proceed with any acquisition of this farmland without the genuine consent of the affected farmers.
6. Give villagers full information and a real opportunity to record objections.
7. Study the impact on farmland, groundwater, irrigation, and ponds/water bodies before considering any such project again.
This is our land, our livelihood, and our children's future. We are asking the authorities to respect that and withdraw this proposal.
