The Issue

The abuse of the Havasupai tribe’s pack animals has been going on unchecked for decades. Many organizations have gone onto the reservation to try to help. They take the position that building relationships with the tribe is the only way to improve the conditions and treatment of these animals. Decades later, little has changed. Whippings, beatings, starvation, denied access to water, injured, overworked and overloaded horses and mules who continue to suffer and die on the trail to Havasu Falls. No one in government has lifted a finger to hold this tribe accountable and it is crystal clear that “building relationships “ has no impact. We demand that government officials convene meetings with the Havasupai tribe specifically targeted to end this horrible abuse.
