Stop the Abuse of J1 Waiver Physician Job Holders

Stop the Abuse of J1 Waiver Physician Job Holders
The Issue
I am a J1 waiver physician, and every day at my job, I face abuse. This situation is not just personal to me; it's a widespread issue that affects many others in similar positions. Extended hours of work, extra call, and poor compensation is common for J1 waiver job. The current system does not provide an easy way for us to quit our jobs, leaving us trapped in hostile environments.
The J1 visa program is designed to address the shortage of qualified doctors in underserved areas by allowing foreign medical graduates to work in the U.S. However, it has become a breeding ground for exploitation due to its restrictive nature.
According to a study published by the Journal of General Internal Medicine, nearly 40% of international medical graduates reported experiencing some form of workplace mistreatment. This statistic is alarming and unacceptable.
Most of these immigrant doctors came to US with a dream, and are in early stage of career when starting a J1 waiver job. They are young, and do not have strong voice or are scared to voice their concern. Freedom of speech is the human right these doctors deserve. It is inhumane and immoral to abuse such highly trained professional. Many of them face racism and gender discrimination as well.
We demand immediate action from regulatory bodies and lawmakers. We call for stricter regulations on employers who take advantage of this program, more protection rights for workers under this visa category, and easier pathways for these physicians to change jobs if they are being mistreated
Please sign this petition if you were a J1 waiver physician and has faced abuse in any point of your 3 year waiver period.
Please sign this petition if you are a current J1 waiver doctor and is facing abuse.
Please sign this petition if you believe that no one should have to endure workplace abuse or harassment as part of their job—especially those who are here serving our communities' health needs.
My aim is to take this petition to the president. This needs action from the government and needs regulations/law to protect the immigrant J1 waiver doctors. I am creating this petition as anonymous to avoid the retaliation from my employer.
Sincerely,
A J1 waiver physician
