Saint Charles City Council let us down!

We stood up together! In 3 weeks this petition already has over 600 signatures including the ones hand written on paper. We made public comments at the city hall, spoke out directly to our alderman and the mayor, put signs in our yards, organized data and presentations to properly convey to the city our very reasonable concerns and why they should oppose the 7th Street Commons. Though I felt heard in the final hours by at least a portion of the city council, they voted in favor of Pulte's proposal moving forward. The only alderman who bravely spoke out and voted no was Ron Silkaitis (ward 1).
---Silkaitis said to Pulte, "Would you consider going above and beyond the EPA guidelines in anyway to help ease residents' safety concerns?" Without hesitation the answer was NO!---
Pulte's priorities are clear and the city sold us out so a developer could make money by transforming our downtown forever! A historic forest will be clearcut, wildlife will run terrified into the streets with no idea why their home is being destroyed, residents could be exposed to dangerous particulates and debris during the environmental cleanup, the Fox River could be exposed to such contamination as well, 105 overpriced cookie cutter houses will be built and residents like me could be pushed out due to higher taxes from inflated house prices so nearby or similar size and a massive influx in traffic to my quaint quiet area.
This is not over! Today is election day and other than Ron Silkaitis, the entire city council voted in favor of Pulte over us. Let's let them know how we feel about that by voting them out!
This is not over! We need to continue speaking out! Especially with this moving forward it's going to be important for residents in our community to blow the whistle when Pulte doesn't show our neighborhood the respect it deserves by being considerate and mindful during remediation and construction.
I am heartbroken and extremely disappointed. Our community is full of inspiring people though! The way we all came together got the city's attention and that is a small victory yet it will be an important factor moving forward. We really gave it our all! The bravery of Alderman Silkaitis will not be forgotten!! Let's take the time to email him and thank him for taking a stand!
