Stop the 76 Place at Market East! DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN!
Why this petition matters

76 Place at Market East is a proposed indoor arena in Center City, Philadelphia. If built, it will be the future home of the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), moving from the Wells Fargo Center—which is currently shared as their home arena with the Philadelphia Flyers.
WE CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!!! It will destroy Philadelphia! In particular, it will ruin the Chinatown district of Center City! Philadelphia's cultural significance must be preserved!
According to what I read online, Asian Americans United, a coalition of Chinatown residents and organizations in Philadelphia, was formed to oppose the construction of 76 Place at Market East. Steven Whu, the President of the Chinese Restaurant Association, had explained "We know these big sports arenas do not contribute to the neighborhoods that they are in; they serve only their own needs and their own profits." Whu also used Capital One Arena as a cautionary tale given that the Chinese population and number of Chinese restaurants have declined significantly in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. since the stadium's construction in that city.
And what purpose what it serve other than a basketball arena? Off season, there would be absolutely no use for it, because several concert and performing arts venues are located nearby, such as the Kimmel Center.
This project is probably one of the worst ideas anyone has ever had. Many years ago, the Phillies had attempted to build a stadium in Center City Philadelphia, but did their plan work? NO, IT DID NOT!!! It was a total failure! The mayor of Philadelphia at the time disapproved of the project and the stadium was never built. Likewise, Temple University wanted a full-sized football stadium on their campus in North Philadelphia, but was it ever built? No, it wasn't! Because Temple is perfectly content with the practice stadium that they have already on campus, plus they play their games at the Eco-Friendly, Solar-Powered Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia. They have done so since 2003 and are perfectly content with it. So why should the 76ers leave the Wells Fargo Center? There is nothing wrong with the Wells Fargo Center and they can afford to renew the lease. If they are forced out of Philadelphia, so be it, but under NO circumstances will I allow the 76 Place at Market East project to move forward. I will do everything in my power to stop it from being built, and I need all the help that I can get.
In addition to signing this petition, you can also contact the mayor's office of Philadelphia via email. WE MUST STOP THIS PROJECT BEFORE IT STARTS!!!
