Stop the 700-Acre “Project Marvel” Data Center in Bessemer, Alabama
The Issue
The Bessemer City Council is rushing to approve “Project Marvel”—a secretive, $14.5 billion data center complex that would sprawl across 700 acres and permanently reshape our community.
Residents are demanding answers. But so far, they’ve been met with NDAs, vague promises, and silence.
Here’s what we know:
The developer, Logistic Land Investment LLC (owned by Atlanta-based TPA Group), wants to build 18 massive data center buildings in Bessemer. The identity of the company behind the project—the one that would actually operate this enormous facility—has been kept hidden from the public. The council is moving ahead anyway.
If approved, this project would:
- Strain our electric grid, possibly leading to higher utility bills for Bessemer families
- Consume vast amounts of water, worsening drought risks and threatening the environment
- Add significant traffic and noise pollution to surrounding neighborhoods
- Destroy 700 acres of land, disrupting local wildlife and long-term livability
- All while the public is kept in the dark about who is behind it.
We are not anti-jobs. We are not anti-growth. But this kind of massive development—larger than many entire neighborhoods—must be subject to public scrutiny, environmental review, and transparency.
Right now, we’re getting none of that.
We demand that the Bessemer City Council immediately halt all approval of Project Marvel until full public disclosure is made, including:
- The identity of the company behind the project
- The project’s environmental impact assessment
- Utility demand and rate impact projections
- Transparent public hearings before any vote
Bessemer deserves more than backroom deals. Sign now to protect our land, water, and future from a development we still know far too little about.
