On Monday, July 16 at 9AM in Tacoma (see address below), there is a very important public hearing on the Knutson Warehouse Proposal. It's critical that as many of you as possible attend so that the hearing examiner understands that the citizens of Puyallup object to this proposal. We need to tell the hearing examiner that this proposal will have very significant impacts on Puyallup! This proposal will result in 7,000 vehicles (including 2,000 big trucks) per day on already very congested Shaw Road and E. Main. Our attendance and voices will tell the hearing examiner what we think about this project. We know this is a terrible time, but this is how the County rolls.We agree with the City of Puyallup's appeal of Pierce County's horrible decision that this project will not cause significant impacts. The hearing examiner should reject Pierce County's determination and require an Environmental Impact Statement, public input, and mitigation to reduce traffic and save some open space and farmland. This proposal is not consistent with the City's land use plan for this future annexation area, which was adopted in 2009 with the involvement of the land owners. The City's plan includes a mix of development types as well as protection of open space and farm land. When the Shaw Road Overpass was built it was intended to support the City's land use plan not a huge warehouse complex. The Shaw Road Overpass cost $26 Million and we the citizens of Puyallup paid $8.4 million. This is not fair. WE DID NOT PAY FOR SHAW ROAD OVERPASS TO SUPPORT THIS PROJECT.
