Stop the 5G Cell Tower near our Neighborhoods and Walker-Grant Middle School
The Issue
Petition to Milestone Towers & Fredericksburg City Council:
We, the undersigned, residents of Fredericksburg, VA, strongly oppose the construction of the proposed cell tower on Gateway Blvd near Walker-Grant Middle School. We believe that this project, being so close to neighborhoods and our city's middle school, will pose significant impacts that must be addressed before any further development proceeds.
The health and safety of our children is our top priority, and placing a 5G monopole so close to educational facilities, where they spend a large part of their day, raises serious and valid concerns regarding radiation exposure. Studies have raised numerous questions about the long-term health effects of prolonged exposure to 5G radiation, especially on children. Although the telecom industry assures us of its safety, the lack of conclusive evidence calls for a precautionary approach, especially when the wellbeing of our children is at stake.
Additionally, the presence of such a structure can detract from the character and aesthetics of our community. Nearby neighborhoods are known for their charm and vibrant outdoors. The installation of an industrial-sized monopole threatens to disrupt this landscape, affecting property values and the overall beauty of our neighborhoods, potentially affecting the economic stability of the area. Real estate experts have shown that the placement of cell towers near residential properties can decrease property values by as much as 20%! There are also surveys showing that up to 94% of home buyers say they would pay less or avoid properties close to cell towers, because of aesthetics, as well as potential health effects.
We're not against technological advancement; however, it must not come at the cost of our health and community welfare. We are asking the developer (Milestone Towers) and Fredericksburg City Council to reconsider the placement of this monopole and explore safer alternative locations that do not pose risks to residential areas and schools.
