Stop the 300 bus from dropping off passengers on the dangerous A595
The Issue
I want to share my concern for the safety of my neighbours and myself, who depend on the 300 bus from Carlisle to Maryport. Recently, there has been a troubling change in the bus route that affects those of us living in Thursby. Instead of serving our village directly, the bus now drops us off on the busy A595, forcing us to navigate a hazardous journey on foot into the village, along a road without pavements and limited visibility.
The A595 is no place for pedestrian traffic. Its lack of pedestrian-friendly infrastructure means every trip into Thursby now comes with significant risks. Walking alongside fast-moving vehicles, with no barrier or pavements, poses an urgent safety threat. We should not be risking accidents just to get home safely from a public transport service that can easily accommodate a very short detour into the village.
Re-routing the 300 bus to serve Thursby would take only 2 extra minutes of travel time. This simple adjustment could dramatically improve safety, protect lives, and offer peace of mind to the numerous residents who rely on this service. Public transport should serve the needs of the community, not jeopardize its safety.
Over several months, incidents have been reported where individuals have been endangered due to traffic conditions on the A595. According to local data, there have been numerous traffic accidents in the vicinity, underscoring the need for safety-oriented changes. A study of road safety by Cumbria County Council highlights areas like ours where pedestrian pathways are lacking in infrastructure.
I urge the transport authority to reassess the current route and reinstate direct access to Thursby for the 300 service. As public demand shows, this is more than a request for convenience; it's a plea for safety.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for a safer, more community-focused bus service that respects the needs and lives of Thursby residents. Add your name today to support a simple change that can make a big difference. Let's ensure the 300 bus protects its passengers and embraces the role of a true community service. Please sign and share widely.
