I disagree with all the new changes being put in place by the board members except for one. The name change. The "Shelter of Hope" was a completely misleading name due to the fact that majority of animals turned over to them had no hope! Instead of choosing to spend money to change the name, why don't they try changing their policies to better reflect their name! As a taxpayer I do NOT want my hard earned money going to "The Municipal Animal Services" to help kill animals! There are better solutions than the ones that are suggested, and I think these changes are turning this pound in the complete opposite direction of where they should be headed. There are currently 30 no-kill animal shelters in Ontario alone such as the Humane Society of Canada, where they find a way to make it work with no casualties - so clearly it IS possible! Last year they planned to implement a trap-neuter/spay-release program but that fell through as it is not in their mandate. These new policies are outrageous, especially considering the average stay for cats at the facility was over 30 days for both 2015 and 2016! With the direction the board is heading no animals will make it out alive! Stop the 30 day limit they want to introduce and make this a no-kill shelter!
