To the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Governor Ron DeSantis, and Florida State Legislators:

As a Florida resident, animal caregiver, and advocate for wildlife protection, I stand in firm opposition to the decision to reopen black bear hunting in December 2025. This action is not only cruel—it’s unnecessary and deeply out of step with the values of our community.

Florida’s black bears are not a threat—they are victims of habitat loss, urban expansion, and human negligence. In 2015, over 300 bears were killed in just two days, including pregnant females and cubs. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.

We demand:

The immediate cancellation of the 2025 bear hunting season
Investment in education and peaceful coexistence programs
Permanent legal protections for Florida’s black bears
Wildlife deserves respect—not extermination. Bears are part of our ecosystem, our heritage, and our shared responsibility.
