The Issue

Our neighborhood, known for its communal spirit and ideally scaled architecture, is under threat due to a proposal for a new, towering structure that dwarfs any other in the area. This proposed structure which is proposed as international student accommodation not only threatens the charm and harmony of our locality, but also can bring negative impacts on sunlight, privacy, and aesthetics. Various studies have proven that immense, mismatched structures in a low-rise neighbourhood damage its character and can even lead to social and psychological issues (Sources: "High-Rise Syndrome: The Impact on Community", a study by The Urban Planning Institute, 2018).
This being on one of the busiest roads in London would increase the congestion locally and with such height would impact how people can enjoy the sun in Kennington park .
We believe in growth and development, but it should not compromise the character and sustainability of our neighborhood. We, therefore, urge our local planners and city council to reconsider this proposal. Sign this petition to help preserve the character and charm of our neighborhood.
