Living in Yerington, Nevada, for nearly a decade has been an experience filled with the beauty and tranquility of our rural community. But now, an enormous threat looms over the community —a massive data center worth $11 billion is planned for construction just nine miles from where I lived and right next to a wildlife refuge & hatchery. This isn't just about disturbing the peace with a project that spans 505 acres and consists of 14 buildings, each the size of a Walmart. It's about protecting our most precious resource: water.

You see, most Yerington residents already struggle with access to clean water. Yet, this proposed data center is set to siphon off the very life force of our community by consuming up to 2.7 million gallons of water every day. For us, this isn't just a statistic; it's a crisis. Water is a fundamental necessity and should prioritize residents' needs over  greed.

Furthermore, this data center plans to merge with the Fort Churchill power plant. This indicates not just an encroachment on our resources but also on the natural wildlife refuge nearby. Our local environment is already fragile—one can't help but question the sustainability of such a massive project in this delicate ecosystem.

Yerington is more than a dot on a map—it's home. Our community deserves better. We must act against regulatory oversight that allows such egregious exploitation of our land and resources. This isn't progress; it's devastation under the guise of economic growth.
