The Issue

As a child, I have fond memories of swimming in the Thames, enjoying long walks along the riverside, camping by its banks, cruising on its serene waters and exciting mudlarking sessions at low tide. These joyful experiences are now only a painful memory. Today, we find ourselves unable to do the simplest of these activities due to the pollution caused by raw effluent being discharged into our rivers by Thames Water. The vibrant life that once thrived on this great river is now suffocating.  Thames Water have been pumping raw sewage non-stop for almost two months into the Thames and its tributaries.  I don't understand why they are allowed to get away with this.

The pollution affects not just human life, but also the myriad species of animals and plants that depend on the river for their existence. When the river floods, the effluent spreads across the surrounding fields, causing untold damage to life and the environment. Thames Water's continued reckless actions threaten our health, livelihoods, and the beautiful wildlife that surrounds us.

How can we continue to stand by as our precious resource is poisoned? Thames Water must be held accountable for the pollution of our rivers, and we demand an immediate stop to the practice of discharging untreated sewage into the Thames and its tributaries.

Let us reclaim the Thames, its life, and its majesty. Let us work together to ensure cleaner water in our rivers and safe environments for us, our children, and the wildlife. This is a personal plea, echoed by thousands of voices across the country. Let's fight for clean, healthy rivers we can all enjoy. Sign the petition today, and make your voice heard.
