My father was sedated and put on a ventilator at Valley Baptist Medical Center located at 2101 Pease St Harlingen, Texas without the doctors speaking to the family or giving us an explanation why this was being done. Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas made that decision for us that cost my father his life. My father was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center for observation on October 28th, 2023. The following day my father was off the little oxygen machine he was on. The nurse told my mom that he had to do some walking therapy which my father did. He was moving and talking to the doctors and nurses and his family that was always by his side. On October 30th at approximately 2:00 am my sister was taken out of the ICU room by a nurse practitioner after about 45 minutes they took my sister to the lobby then they brought her back to the room and my father was sedated and put on a ventilator. It was a total shock to us when my sister called us, we went to the hospital in morning requested to speak to the doctors, nurses to ask why this was done and nobody would speak to us we requested these three different times, and nobody would speak to us. 

After my father was put on that ventilator every day was a total nightmare for the family. The doctor walked into the room and told us your father has been off medication for four days why is he not waking up? We told him you are the doctor, and you are asking us why he is not waking up its because you all over medicated him and you all put in on a ventilator without our consent the doctor walked out of the room. My father suffered and was used as a human ginny pig for these doctors and nurses. One day he was doing so well the next day he had Rhino failure the next day he was going well but now he had liver failure then he was bleeding from the inside we ask them from where they told us all we know it's from the chest down, then they told us my father was brain dead that he had a stroke, or a heart attack that's  the reason why he is not able to wake up or react when we hit his knee. The doctors told us we are confirming with the neurologist then the neurologist walks in the room and tells us your dad's brain is good he did not suffer any stroke or heart attack am not sure why they told you all this. Then they told us your dad has kidney stones and also the ventilator gave him hospital pneumonia on the other lung we are currently treading him for that as well. It was getting worst by the day the last thing they told us was now he has blood or pus liquid in his lungs, we are confirming with the x-rays and will let you all know what we will have to do to remove the liquid from the lungs, The doctor walks in the room and tell us no he does not have any liquid in this lungs so we will not have to put the needle in his lungs and drain them. My father fought for his life for three and half weeks at that horrible disgusting hospital. What I have wrote here is only a portion of what my father had to go through. My father lost his life November 22nd, 2023, they gave us the choice to disconnect him from the ventilator but did not give us a choice to put him on it.

Who gives the hospitals in Texas the right to sedate and put your loved one on a ventilator without family consent? This practice is not only unethical but can lead to devastating consequences, as it did for my family. We need legislation that mandates hospitals to obtain explicit consent from families before making such critical decisions about their loved ones' care.

Please do your research before you take your loved ones to a hospital if we would of have knowledge of how bad this hospital was, we would have never allowed them to send my father to this hospital look at them google reviews there horrible and terrifying. Harlingen Valley Baptist Medical is dirty and flitty used gloves, needles on the floor and not to mention a medication tube as a door stoper.
