Stop Targeting Texas Trans Students With Fear-Based Political Mailers
The Issue
I’m a Texas voter, and when I heard one of those infamous flyers targeting Texas trans teens was supposed to land in my mailbox, my first thought was: this is a scare tactic. That’s exactly what it feels like. It’s not about helping kids. It’s about making families and communities afraid of young people who are just trying to be themselves. And honestly, that is cruel.
What gets me is how casually this kind of messaging treats real human beings like a political prop. In my video, I said it as plainly as I could: when you love people in your life, you love and support them unconditionally. That is the bare minimum. Trans teens deserve to be their most authentic selves without being targeted by propaganda that paints them as a problem instead of recognizing their humanity.
That’s why I’m calling on Texas lawmakers to stop allowing fear-based political attacks aimed at trans students and to publicly reject materials that target them. Texas leaders should support protections for transgender students, condemn campaigns designed to shame or isolate them, and make it clear that our state will not use young people as ammunition in culture-war messaging. If adults want to have political fights, they do not get to do it by putting a target on kids’ backs.
I also want every trans teen in Texas to hear this: you are loved, you are who you are supposed to be, and there are people ready to fight alongside you. But love alone is not enough when harmful messaging is being normalized. We need action from the people in power. Please sign this petition and help demand that Texas stop targeting trans students with fear.
