The Issue

Having personally experienced the charm and tranquility of Tarboro, I am deeply concerned about the proposed data center and storage hub. This project poses significant risks that outweigh any potential benefits, not only to those living nearby but to the entire town. The serene environment, character, and community cohesion we cherish in Tarboro could be dramatically altered by the presence of such a massive facility.

Data centers are notorious for consuming enormous amounts of electricity and water, leading to increased utility rates and depletion of local resources. They produce considerable noise pollution from cooling systems which would disrupt the quiet we all value. Additionally, data centers have been linked to increased environmental footprints due to the heavy infrastructure they require.

The arrival of a large-scale data center might promise economic benefits, but these are often exaggerated. Jobs created tend to be few, highly specialized, and not readily accessible to local residents. Local businesses could suffer as resources are diverted, and our roads could see increased heavy vehicle traffic contributing to wear and infrastructure costs.

The Town Council must consider these undeniable risks and costs to our way of life. Voting "no" on the special use permit is crucial to preserve our town’s character, protect our environment, and ensure that economic gains are not short-lived or misleading.

Join me in urging the Tarboro Town Council to reject this proposal. Our town’s future should prioritize sustainable growth that aligns with the values and wellbeing of our community. Please sign this petition to make your voice heard.
