STOP TAMA WEEKLY BEDSTUY OPEN STREETS REFERENDUM

STOP TAMA WEEKLY BEDSTUY OPEN STREETS REFERENDUM
The Issue
Ignoring input from longtime BedStuy homeowners & residents; every year for six months TAMA (Tompkins Avenue Merchant's Association) continues to host a disruptive & out of control weekly six block long block party & music festival on Tompkins Avenue.
Each Sunday for over 10 hours our quiet streets are transformed into a 6 month long block party by invasive crowds coming by the from all over the NYC area.
Each week residents are overwhelmed by violent drunks who openly urinate and vomit on our homes & sidewalks.
Our streets are blocked by 100's of illegally doubleparked cars, effectively locking in residents for months. Potentially preventing first responders to rescue our elderly and sick residents. Residents are prevented from enjoying, walking through, & running errands in our own neighborhood each weekend.
From June through November each weekend residents are now prevented from parking on six blocks of Tompkins Avenue. That is in addition to four alternate side weekday restrictions.
Residents are also forced to engage in confrontations with 100's of out of control drunks fueled by excessively loud DJ's, live bands & lack of TAMA oversight. (No security, restrooms, or garbage collection are provided by TAMA.)
Open Streets were presented by the City Council as a way for residents to enjoy their neighborhood. Not to be a for profit music festival/block party.
On behalf of NYC voters we request the Mayor & City Council take Open Streets to the ballot as public referendum.
After surviving redlining & enduring gentrification; our longtime homeowners & residents deserve to enjoy the fruits of our labors and continue to preserve our amazing Bed Stuy homes, neighborhood, & quality of life.
