The Issue

Alfie has autism, adhd and mental health issues. Since the age of 4 Alfie has never had a full time education due to his needs. He attended 2 mainstream schools who unfortunately couldn't deal with his needs. Alfie was then given a EHCP and was advised by his co ordinator that they had given out his plan to numerous schools across Wirral and Liverpool and only one school came back to say they could accommodate him. The school was funded by Wirral and they was happy to pay the fees to get him the support he needs. Because the school was in Liverpool and we lived in the Wirral they told us they would provide transport which unfortunately didn't work out. Travelling 64 miles a day 4 times a day, I decided the best option would be to move closer to his school and up root from my family home in Wirral to Liverpool. Liverpool SEND TEAM Then took over Alfie's EHCP plan and decided to tell me they was looking at mainstream schools as well as SEN schools because of the funding. On Tuesday 16th may we had a meeting with the LA and school who advised the case worker that if Alfie was to move from there school it would be detrimental to his mental health as he has a full time education after 4 years, in a class of 2 children, has all the support he needs from school psychologist and occupational therapist on a weekly basis, built trusting relationships with his peers and how he is settling amazingly. On Friday 19th I was advised by phone call that Alfie will be being moved to a school in sept. This school has a class of 10 kids when I spoke with them, Alfie is in a class of two children because the class he was in originally of 5 kids he couldn't cope. They have give me no options to view other schools or no reasons why there moving him apart from mentioning funding issues when I first spoke with the case worker.

. This is disgusting. Alfie is a 8 year old boy who is under cahms for mental health, currently going to school full time, gets a full education, all his needs are met and his school are shocked that they are doing this because of the effects it will have on him going forward. I was told if I stayed in Wirral then there wouldn't of been a issue with him staying in the school. Imagine having to leave your family home to accommodate your child's needs to be swept away from you in a heart beat. I am asking for people to sign this petition fo help support families like myself who have children with SEN NEEDS to get them the support they need in life and to have the same education as an other child would.

The Government is investing £2.6 billion between 2022 and 2025 to support local authorities to deliver new specialist SEND places and increasing high needs revenue funding to £10.1 billion in 2023-24. So why is my child and other children and families being punished and denied the right education and support by local authorities? This needs addressing and more action needs to take place.

Liverpool council are opening a load of special schools in the south of the city (I’ve heard of 3 already, with more in the pipeline) so they’re trying to pull the funding for anyone in private settings like lakeside to save money.. MONEY shouldn't be a issue when it comes to our children's education and needs
