Galway Crystal is continuing to support the greyhound industry, despite ongoing revelations about the suffering and deaths of dogs.

The crystal company once again sponsored the annual Irish Greyhound Board awards in April. According to a report on the Irish Greyhound Board website, the company was "CELEBRATING 11 years of sponsorship this year".

During the awards ceremony, the company was thanked, with the host commenting: "The brood bitches were the lifeblood of the greyhound world, but as well as that, the sponsors are a fair lifeblood as well. It's great to get somebody so loyal as Galway Crystal." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egxMy7CIqEM&t=2m56s

Among the awards - disgracefully presented by Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Andrew Doyle - were "dog of the year", "bitch of the year" and "brood bitch of the year".

James Callaghan of Galway Crystal also received a "recognition award" from the IGB CEO and Minister Doyle.

In a past photo posted on the Galway Crystal Facebook page, James Callaghan can be seen standing alongside "Brian Divilly (president of Irish Coursing Club) and DJ Histon (CEO of Irish Coursing Club)"

Since 2015 alone at greyhound tracks around Ireland, 1,369 greyhounds have been injured, with 438 killed. An estimated 10,000 go missing each year - presumed killed when found to be too slow to win races.

Greyhound racing is also sustaining the cruel bloodsport of hare coursing - all greyhounds used in track racing are registered with the Irish Coursing Club and the registration fees help fund coursing activities. In coursing, thousands of hares are snatched from the wild every year for use as live bait for greyhounds. Hares are terrorised while desperately running for their lives and there are injuries and deaths due to maulings.

ACTION ALERT

Contact Galway Crystal and urge the company to end its support for the cruel greyhound industry.
