A greyhound has been left "very sore" after running 1,000 yards in the first round of the BoyleSports Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park.
According to a report on the Irish Greyhound Board website today, the 2-year-old dog named Cashen Kuba is now "unable to get fully off his bench" and has been withdrawn from the second heat.
"He is just not going to be ready for Saturday," the greyhound trainer is quoted as saying. "We are all gutted by it."
Shelbourne Park is one of the worst tracks in Ireland for greyhound injuries. In the first six months of this year, it recorded the highest number of injuries. In the past three and a half years, 129 greyhounds suffered injuries at Shelbourne Park and 29 were killed https://www.facebook.com/banbloodsports/posts/1752148048234079
