Stop Sunrise Abuse - Hold Airlines Accountable in Haiti

Stop Sunrise Abuse - Hold Airlines Accountable in Haiti
The Issue
My recent trip to Haiti was marred by an appalling lack of professionalism and accountability on the part of Sunrise Airways. Upon my arrival in Cap-Haitien, SUNRISE withheld my suitcase along with y carry-on. They charged me $115 in freight fees for the suitcase that I should received immediately upon my arrival in LES CAYES.
After much inconvenience, my carry-on was delivered the next day. However, my suitcase, crucial for my stay, did not arrive until four days later. When it did finally arrive, it was torn and in poor condition. Throughout this ordeal, Sunrise Airways showed no willingness to communicate or apologize, nor did they express the slightest concern for the disruption they caused.
This isn’t an isolated incident. An overwhelming number of passengers have reported similar experiences with this airline. Airlines must prioritize customer service, especially in regions like Haiti, where options are limited and travelers often have no choice but to rely on the services of THE ONLY ONE companie “SUNRISE”
Accountability is a cornerstone of any successful business operation. Regrettably, what I and many others have encountered borders on negligence. This petition calls for the following actions to hold Sunrise Airlines accountable and to prevent future occurrences:
WE, the undersigned, call for:
1- Immediate investigation and accountability regarding the repeated abuse, negligence and exploitation of passengers by SUNRISE AIRLINES
2-A transparent review of all fees associated with baggage transfer and immediate clarification, ensuring passengers are not ambushed upon arrival.
3- An efficient and communicable tracking system for luggage that keeps passengers informed about the whereabouts and arrival times of their belongings.
4- A dedicated customer service team to assist passengers in hassle-free claim procedures in case of lost, delayed, or damaged baggage, with timely reimbursement and apologies.
5- Establishment of penalties for airlines that repeatedly fail to meet customer service expectations, with oversight from applicable aviation authorities.
These incidents are not isolated, they represent a pattern of behavior that disrespects passengers rights, undermines confidence in air travel, and more importantly, tarnishes Haïti’s image as a destination.
Such changes not only protect individual rights and property but also ensure a traveler-centered service that respects and values each passenger as more than just a ticket number.
OUR DEMANDS:
We call on the following international bodies to intervene, investigate, and hold SUNRISE AIRLINES accountable:
- The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
- The International Air Transport Association (IATA)
WE URGE THEM TO:
1- Investigate SUNRISE AIRLINES operations in Haiti
2- Enforce international standards of passenger safety, service, and accountability.
3- Require compensation and restitution for passengers who have suffered loss, damage or/and abuse.
4- Ensure transparency and proper oversight to prevent further exploitation of travelers.
Sign this petition to call for urgent reforms to Sunrise Airways' operations and advocate for fair treatment of all passengers traveling to and within Haiti.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
Airlines are responsible for passengers safety, dignity and basic human rights. In HAITI, or for simply for the Haitian people, we already face so many challenges, traveling to our country should not be subjected to further abuse from the ONLY company meant to serve us. Haitian travelers and visitors to HAITI deserve respect, accountability, and safe service.
Let us ensure that airlines serve their customers responsibly and respectfully, fostering trust and reliability in air travel.
