Stop Stigma On Fistula

Stop Stigma On Fistula
The Issue
The World Health Organisation estimates that Kenya annually records 3,000 new cases of obstetric fistula a chronic disability with severe physical, psychological, social and economic consequences on women. Despite this obstetric fistula is both preventable and treatable. Only about 1,000 fistula surgeries (less than 50 per cent of the cases) are done annually in Kenya. Join Save a Woman Fistula Foundation in our mission to end the stigma faced by women who have experienced obstetric fistula by signing this petition.
Due to the increased cost of living, only about 7.5 per cent of the girls and women can access fistula-related medical care including surgery. Furthermore less than 10 per cent of all health facilities in Kenya can offer primary emergency obstetric care and only 6 per cent provide comprehensive emergency obstetric care. These figures are an indication that Kenya is in dire need of medical personnel trained in fistula care including prevention, repair, and reintegration back into society. By signing our petition you’ll be adding your voice to the call for greater awareness and support for fistula victims and helping to break down the barriers that prevent them from accessing proper health care and resources they need to live healthy and dignified lives. Together we can help to ensure that no distressed woman is left behind due to this devastating condition.
