STOP Steven van de Velde, convicted rapist & pedophile from competing in Olympics
The Issue
Steven van de Velde a rapist & pedophile who was convicted of repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl is representing the Netherlands in beach volleyball pairs at 2024 Olympics.
No rapist or pedophile should ever be allowed to represent any country in any Olympics...no matter how long ago the rapist or pedophile committed their crimes.
Please sign on to this *INARG petition telling the International Volleyball Federation, and Olympic organizing committees and their sponsors to;
- STOP Steven van de Velde from competition in the 2024 Olympics
- NOW implement a universal by-law similar to the Australian Olympic Committee' “ethical behaviour by-law” which forbids the selection of any person who has been convicted of any crime with a sexual basis, or any offense involving children
Steven van de Velde admitted to three counts of rape against a child he solicited via Facebook. He was aware of the child's age. He arranged to meet this child and traveled from Amsterdam, Netherlands to New Zealand in August 2014. Making sure her parents would not be present in order to meet this child at her home and rape her. Steven Van de Velde "groomed" this child, planned and made arrangements in order to rape this child multiple times upon meeting her once.
Although Steven van de Velde confessed to this 2014 rape he was not convicted until 2016. His sentence commuted to the Netherlands where he was released after just 12 months in prison there. In 2017 he resumed his volleyball career..."following an intensive, professionally supervised trajectory" the Dutch Olympic Committee has stated.
