Stop Starbucks UVIC

The University of Victoria has recently announced that Starbucks will be introduced to its campus as of September 2019.
Starbucks will replace the beloved Finnerty Express, which serves locally roasted, Fair to Farmer certified Salt Spring Coffee and locally baked goods from the QV Bakery in Victoria's Chinatown. By replacing Finnerty Express, UVic is sending the message that local businesses, human rights, and sustainable food practices are not important to the institution.
As students, we are frustrated with this decision and do not support our University's decision to introduce corporations on our campus. Many people in the community do not feel as though their input has been taken into consideration. Students were not adequately consulted in the decision making process. We will be taking collective action to stand against UVic's decision to relinquish our rights to local, sustainable food sources as paying members of the academy.

By signing this petition you are adding your voice to a growing number of students, staff, faculty and community members who are demanding that the university reevaluates their decision on introducing a corporation that does not align with the University's own sustainability action plan.
