The Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) and US Stream Data Centers, who are backed by Apollo Global Management, want to build a 2.2 million square foot, 500 megawatt data center at the WNY STAMP mega industrial site. WNY STAMP is surrounded by wetlands, and is located next to the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, the Tonawanda Seneca Nation’s “Big Woods” and the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area. Data centers use massive amounts of water and energy. We need to contact the Department of Environmental Conservation and demand they not grant these permits. While you’re at it, tell them to pull the Freshwater ECL and SPDES permits that they have already granted for the STAMP Wastewater Pipeline. DEC continues to honor these permits even though construction on the Wastewater Pipeline was halted after the developer spilled 500-700 gallons of hydraulic drilling fluid into the Refuge and the US Fish and Wildlife Service revoked a right of way permit. 

Call the Governor Kathy Hochul and tell her to Honor Treaties and Climate Law.

As a young child growing up near the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), my mother did her part to foster in me a deep respect for our natural surroundings. She introduced me to the breathtaking chorus of birdsong that echoed through our backyard and even the distant rustle of wildlife. Today, I am a certified wildlife rehabilitation specialist. My path led me to release a rehabilitated short-eared owl, an endangered species, back into its rightful place in the refuge, giving it a chance at a life it may not have had otherwise. Understanding that this STAMP project could — in its scope — bring irreversible harm to such priceless natural sanctuaries motivated me to learn more.
I discovered our wetlands aren't just homes to precious wildlife. They also play a crucial role in our fight against climate change. Wetlands, like the Iroquois NWR and the Tonawanda Seneca Nation’s “Big Woods”, are fundamental ecosystems in carbon sequestration. 

Furthermore, subjecting these areas to construction violates the treaties we've made with the Native American people, particularly the Tonawanda Seneca Nation. Their designated lands — some of which include the critically endangered Short eared owl and Northern Harrier Hawk's territory— should not be subjected to disturbance.

The DEC has not yet revoked the permit for this pipeline. By signing this petition, you call for the respect of the wetlands, of our environmental commitments, and of sacred Native American grounds.
