What has happened since I started this petition
Contacted councilman Dennis Dunne Sr
His office advised me to write to Town Hall Plaza: Town Attorneys Office 3rd Floor Traffic (I write them every week or more often). His office also said I should file a police report.
Contacted Tom Reed who is the supervisor of traffic control: he is the one who says if the area needs new signage. He follows NY State Manuel on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. He says he will be evaluating our area. The first request that I had for putting a stop sign at the corner of Ravine Place and Oakfield Ave will not be something they can be done because of the incline in the street due to the overpass (it’s too close to the overpass). So we are going to try and get a stop sign put at the corner of Mayfield Place and Oakfield Ave and Glenn Road and Oakfield Ave with the hopes of getting a cross walk there too.
Contacted Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin
His office made me aware of a recent cross walk that was placed in Garden City by a dance school. This is something that would benefit Oakfield Ave. Problem is Clavins office says the Police are the ones to sign off on it and the Police are saying they can only recommend crosswalks with crossing guards at them if requested by the superintendent of the school. I am looking to get a crossing closer to Mayfield and Ravine to cross over Oakfield. There is already an area to cross by North Jerusalem.
Overall nothing has changed yet. The representatives are listening and getting back to me, but it seems like everyone is saying its someone elses job. Until there is an actually change I will not be happy and I will not stop trying. It may get to flooding the Supervisor and Councilman’s office with emails, phone calls and letters (if it does I will share all info for anyone that wants to help). I hope they will just listen to the people, read our petition and talk to the community members. Thank you again for all who have signed and shared this petition.
