Dr. Alireza Golchini, a 52-year-old surgeon from Qazvin, Iran, is currently at risk of the death penalty. His "crime"? He honored his Hippocratic Oath.

On January 10, security forces violently raided his home in front of his 11-year-old son. They beat him so severely they broke his arm and ribs before dragging him away. Days prior, Dr. Golchini had posted his phone number on social media, offering free medical aid to any protester afraid to go to a militarized hospital.

He now faces the charge of "Moharebeh" (Waging War Against God)—a charge the regime uses to justify state-sanctioned murder. While there were some unconfirmed, conflicting reports on social media regarding his potential release on bail, more recent reports indicate he may have remained in custody.

Dr. Golchini is not alone. Over 40 medical professionals have been disappeared or detained for treating the wounded, including:

• Dr. Babak Zarabian (Isfahan): Arrested after his hospital was raided by intelligence forces.
• Dr. Golnar Naraqi (Tehran): An emergency specialist snatched from her home.
• Dr. Babak Pouramin (Mashhad): Detained in connection with treating protesters in the city of Mashhad.

This is while recent reports confirm Iran's executions of injured protesters in their hospital beds.

By targeting doctors, they ensure that wounded protesters have nowhere to turn. This is a "secondary killing mechanism"—if the bullets don't kill the protesters, the lack of medical care will.
