Stop sign for Jason

Stop sign for Jason
The Issue
With the support of the East Kensington Neighbors Association and our fellow community members, we are calling to install stop signs on Frankford Ave at the Hagert St. intersection.
Late in the evening of November 20, 2024, our dear friend Jason Lohr was riding his bicycle northbound on Frankford Avenue heading home. A southbound driver struck him at this very intersection while trying to make a left turn onto Hagert. Jason was rushed to the hospital and remained hospitalized for several weeks before he died from his injuries.
Jason a was a dear friend to many of us. He had your back no matter the circumstance and strived to keep everyone safe. He cared deeply for his community. For these reasons and many more, his loss has left a hole in hearts that can never be filled.

City data shows that Frankford between Girard and Torresdale saw over a dozen car crashes between 2018 and 2022, more than half of which involved pedestrians and cyclists.
Frankford Avenue is a state-managed roadway, so installing a stop sign will require an official petition to PennDOT to take action. But it begins with EKNA and then with the support of our local elected officials like Councilmember Mark Squilla. The urgent nature of the matter requires a resolution in 2026.
What happened to Jason could happen to any of us. He deserved protection just like all of us do.
Thank you for your support.
