Federal Court Extends Deadline for Health Claims in Growing Legal Battle Over Washoe Valley Superfund Site Development; Call for Blood Testing Issued

WASHOE VALLEY, NV — May 7, 2026 — In a major development for the protection of Northern Nevada residents, a federal court has granted an extension for filing amended claims in the litigation surrounding the proposed Sierra Reflections and St. James Village developments. The extension provides a critical window for individuals who may have been impacted by toxic heavy metal exposure from the Carson River Mercury Superfund site to join the legal action.

The Stop Sierra Reflections for Good Coalition (SSR4GC) is urgently calling for the local news media to help identify and inform residents—particularly those of the "Superfund Generation"—of their right to participate.

Urgent Call to Action: Blood Testing for Affected Residents

A central part of this mission is the mobilization of the "Superfund Generation." The Coalition is calling on anyone born between 1940 and 1990 who grew up or lived in the Washoe and Pleasant Valley regions to prioritize their health and seek specialized blood work and heavy metal testing.

Establishing a medical record of exposure is vital to understanding the long-term impact of mercury, arsenic, and lead on the community. The Coalition is working to document cases of:

• Early-onset strokes (occurring before age 50).

• Neurological disorders and nervous system impairment.

• Autoimmune conditions potentially linked to the Carson River watershed.

A Frozen Development Landscape

While the Al-Athel family’s FAL Group and World Properties Inc. seek to move forward with nearly 1,500 residential lots, the land is currently under a cloud of litigation. Lis pendens filings recorded in March 2026 effectively freeze approximately 1,131 acres of the project site, legally notifying all potential buyers and lenders of the ongoing federal claims.

A Call for Community Justice

"This extension is a testament of patience and a love that has endured for this land and its people," said a representative for the Coalition. "It is the responsibility of our local news outlets to ensure that the 'Superfund Generation' knows the truth about their health. We are winning this battle for transparency, but we need every affected person to get tested and stand with us."

Residents from zip codes 89704, 89521, and 89511 who believe their health may have been impacted by the Superfund site are encouraged to come forward before the new court-mandated deadline.
