Friends and Neighbors,
I am writing this to you with a sense of urgency. While we have stood our ground, I need to prepare you for the reality of what comes next.
The Developer’s Immediate Next Step
The developer has until this Friday to file their official appeal. Once that is filed, it buys them more time to submit "revised" or "watered-down" versions of their plans. Do not be misled; they will claim they "listened," but they are just trying to find a different way to push the same bad idea while waiting for our focus to fade.
A Major Shift in coalition Strategy: Our Land Trust & Stewardship
I want to share a significant update regarding our long-term vision. We are no longer looking for the State to acquire the land. Instead, we are working to facilitate the direct acquisition of the land, which will be placed into a Trust for the Washoe Tribe. The Coalition will take the lead as the official managers in charge of the Conservation Stewardship and Reforestation Project long-term. This ensures the land is returned to its rightful protectors while the Coalition remains the boots-on-the-ground guardians for generations to come.
The Power of Numbers:
Why 150,000? Our mission is Statewide. For the legal and legislative standing we need, the state requirement is just over 148,000 signatures—currently nearing 149,000. However, we are going to go above and beyond that requirement by reaching a goal of 150,000 signatures Statewide.
• When we have 150,000 verified Nevada residents behind us, we are a massive, unified constituency that the state cannot ignore in courtrooms or legislative hearings.
• This number forces the state to recognize our Coalition as a primary stakeholder in protecting Nevada’s Clean Water, Fire Safety, Tribal Lands, and Military Buffers.
Why Your Membership Is Critical
Joining the Coalition now is a form of protection. Based on legal knowledge and the work actively being done behind the scenes, it is far better to join early as a committed partner than to be faced with the necessity to seek involvement later out of necessity. Early membership strengthens the Coalition’s standing, expands collective legal and legislative leverage, and ensures that community voices are organized, represented, and protected before critical decisions are made.
Upcoming Event:
Coalition Open House & Seminar We are producing our very first event! This will be an Open House, Membership Drive, Petition Drive, and Coalition Seminar all in one.
• When: We are looking at January 25th or, more likely, Sunday, February 15th (to avoid Super Bowl Sunday).
• Purpose: This is your chance to get educated, join the Coalition officially, and sign the wet signature petition in person. Stay tuned for the final date and location!
BEWARE OF FAKE NEWS
Setting the Record Straight on Leadership I have heard the rumors meant to undermine us. Let me be absolutely clear:
1. The Only Expert: I am the only expert on this Coalition, its mission, and its legal strategy. If you have any questions, I encourage you to consult our website or reach out to me directly.
2. Attendance: If anyone tells you I wasn't at the January 6th meeting from 4:34 p.m. until after 10:00 p.m., they are simply incorrect. I was there, I have the records to prove it, and several of the individuals who stood up and spoke that night were actually Coalition members.
3. The Team: If anyone tells you this Coalition is "just me or my mom," they are wrong. While we are leading the charge, we have a dedicated team of about a dozen members working behind the scenes. This is a professional organization.
4. Financial Clarification:
At this time, all Coalition expenses have been paid out of pocket by the Coalition leadership & Executive Director. The Coalition has not sold any merchandise to date, and no operating funds have been generated through merchandise sales. When merchandise sales do commence, the Executive Director retains the copyright to the original designs and creative works and receives a standard 10% licensing fee on gross merchandise sales. This is a customary intellectual-property licensing arrangement. The remaining 90% of all merchandise proceeds are allocated directly to support the operating costs and mission-related activities of the Coalition as it functions as a nonprofit organization.
