Years ago, Stop & Shop promised to go 100% cage-free by 2025. It is now 2025, and the company has yet to fulfill that promise, continuing to sell eggs from an industry so cruel that it has been banned in eleven states and condemned by scientists and animal welfare experts worldwide.

Hens who are confined to filthy and cruel battery cages are denied everything natural and important to them. They are forced to lay eggs in the same cramped, unsanitary space where they defecate, sleep, and eat, and are oftentimes forced to live amongst their dead and decaying cagemates. These sensitive and inquisitive animals are also denied basic natural behaviors – like perching and dust bathing – which is detrimental to their health and well-being. 

As Stop & Shop touts slogans like 'Feed the Moment,' hens in its supply chain don’t get one single moment of freedom. Instead, they are forced to stand on wire bars and cannot freely walk around or spread their wings for the entirety of their sad, miserable lives.

Additionally, Stop & Shop’s failure to keep its promise undermines both its credibility as a retail leader and its trustworthiness with customers. 

Stop & Shop, it's time to put an end to selling eggs from vile battery cages, as you promised years ago. Both animals and your customers are counting on you to stop supporting this extreme animal cruelty!
