I understand your concern about violence and guns - I have a similar concern and I am disappointed in our US cultures fixation on them too. I also got to talk to Mr Rodgers about our work and was very inspired by him, he know guns well. He was very inspired by our work.
I am under a lot of pressure with a wildfire breathing down our neck and very little time to type, we almost evacuate the entire sanctuary three days ago. - thanks for your patience.
I would like to ask you to reach out to the many accredited horse rescues I work with and share your concern. I also have many veterinarians you can talk to if you wish. they will both share how Buthenasia - that is the drug they kill animals with, is not humane. It does not work the same in each animal.
Horse owners I know have watched their horse convulse and spasm and cry for over 30 minutes while they die from chemical euthanasia. The drug contaminates the entire carcass and if any other creature gets some they die too. It is toxic. there is not a good option to veterinarians. I know many livestock vets that feel the same and only use it if the customer requests - often they use a gun. It is not violent in that it a small caliber that when precisely placed the passing is instantaneous and much more humane. Your own state vet drove hundreds of miles so his horse did not have to suffer. Many true ranchers have a value for life and to waste life is not ethical. They want the circle of life to continue. chemical euthanasia does not allow for that.
I will adjust our web site as I see it is somewhat vague and allowed you to believe we are cruel. We are not. I invite you to come visit and I'll take you in to meet a wolf if you are interested - it may leave a memory that will last you a lifetime like it did Mr Rogers.
