The Save America's Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act prohibited the production of horsemeat in the United States, making its consumption illegal. Since horses cannot be slaughtered in America, they are shipped to countries that do allow it, such as Mexico and Canada. The USDA documented that more than 16,300 horses were shipped to Mexico along with more than 5,100 that were sent to Canada.

     As more and more horses are shipped for meat, their population will decline, creating an injustice to their long loyalty, and should rather be respected and admired. For thousands of years, horses have served and accompanied humans. If this continues, it will cause endangerment to their species.

     The United States must ban the shipment of horses, to prevent them from being in such tough conditions, leading to their deaths all for some expensive meals that are fed to people, who do not think about the long, painful journey a horse had to take, just to end up on that plate.
