The reason why this is an issue because in Australia there have been 904 shark attacks since 1790 and 259 of the shark attacks have been have been fatal. The issue is that sharks are being killed everyday and that if all the sharks are dead then the ecosystem is interfered and all the marine animals that eat sharks are going to be affected. Imagine if we were culled and just chucked on the ground, well that's how they feel.
According to the group Sea Shepherds the loss of shark can effect the fish and shellfish species down the food chain, including popular fish such as tuna that maintain the health of coral reefs. Sharks have shaped marine life in the oceans for over 450 million years and are essential to the health of our oceans. The amount of sharks dying from either shark culling or fishing boats are between 70 and 100 million a year. That’s over 10,000 every hour. Shark will eventually become extinct if we keep these programs running.
