The Issue

Living in the serene neighborhood of Riata Rd in Alamogordo, NM, I have always cherished the purity of our environment and the safety it offers my family and neighbors. But this peace is now threatened by a proposal to dump 5,000 gallons of sewage water and 500 gallons of car wash wastewater, rife with contaminants, right in our backyards. The proposed dump site at Riata Organic Soils, located at 174 Riata Rd, is alarmingly close to our homes and our precious water supply.

I am profoundly concerned, as the presence of raw sewage and metal-laden wastewater poses significant health risks to our community. These contaminants can easily seep into our groundwater, jeopardizing our drinking water and affecting the well-being of all residents. The threat of toxic metals and various chemical contaminants entering our daily lives is one that we simply cannot ignore.

Septic companies and waste management entities have a responsibility to ensure their actions do not compromise public health or environmental integrity. Disposing of such large quantities of waste in residential areas can lead to severe ecological consequences, not to mention the potential health crises resulting from such negligence.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), pollutants in wastewater can lead to serious health issues including gastrointestinal illnesses, reproductive problems, and neurological disorders. Furthermore, an influx of heavy metals and nutrients can disrupt local ecosystems, affecting both plant and animal life.

We must urge our local authorities to reconsider this blatantly harmful action and seek alternative, responsible waste management solutions. Solutions such as transporting waste to approved and adequately equipped facilities could avert the impending risk to our community's health and environment.

It is imperative that we stand together as a community and voice our collective opposition to this proposal. By signing this petition, you are not only supporting a cleaner, safer Riata Rd, but also advocating for responsible waste disposal practices that prioritize health and environmental sustainability over convenience and cost.

Help protect our homes, our families, and our future by signing and sharing this petition. Together, let's ensure reckless waste disposal practices do not endanger our precious resources and community well-being.
